The Somaliland House of Representatives approved a resolution opposing the Somali government’s interference in the maritime affairs of the Republic of Somaliland.
The Parliament of Somaliland has passed a resolution rejecting interference from Somalia They affirmed Somaliland’s sovereign rights to enter into agreements under international law with Ethiopia and whoever else they wish.
It is useful to note that Somaliland’s parliament was democratically elected in 2021 in comparison to Somalia whose last democratic election was in 1967.
Additionally, the president of Somalia is a provisional president under the provisional constitution of Somalia, which has not yet been ratified. This in essence also invalidates the recent law passed by Somalia, which was based on a constitution that is still provisional and has not been ratified.
