The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change observed an event to commemorate World Environment Day on June 5 at the ministry’s premises.
The Minister of Environment Hon. Shukri X. Ismail highlighted at length on the problems caused by plastic bags and associated filth such as disposable plastic bottles etc.
“This day is a day of great value to the whole world, as we celebrate our environment”, she said.
“We are working with other ministries to get an interactive bag that will last for a year and a half at most”, she added.
They urged the local government to take cue and charge those who dumb plastic garbage in public areas.
“We see that the use of plastic bags is harmful to our health and our environment, we need to get rid of them”, she noted.
