The United States government has supported the position of the Republic of Somaliland on the ceasefire and has sent a strong warning to those who oppose the ceasefire and are further fueling the conflict.
A tweet from the State Department noted that it “condemns the continued indiscriminate attacks that have killed scores of civilians in Lascanood and driven more than 185,000 people from their homes. The violence must end and those responsible must be held accountable”.
The U.S. warning is expected to exert pressure on the area’s intellectual community to accept a ceasefire and have dialogue, as well as foreign instigators to stop fanning hostilities.
