Long Distance Runner Bashir Abdi lauds East Africa Bank and Dahabshiil Group for its support to the Youth and Sporting Community

Famous Belgian long distance runner Bashir Abdi won the second place in the Djibouti Half Marathon, which took place at Guled Stadium in Djibouti; many international runners competed in the marathon including UK Mo Farah who won the race.

The President of Djibouti, H. E Ismail Omar Guelleh, along with First Lady  Khadra Haji Mohamud Hayd, the Prime Minister of Djibouti Abdikadir Kamil Mohamed and members of his cabinet were among the dignitaries attending the international sporting event.

The East Africa Bank, a subsidiary of Dahabshiil Group of Companies, has been instrumental in sponsoring of renowned Somali-Belgian athlete Bashir Abdi, who secured a 2nd place win.

“I appreciate we have support from corporates like East Africa Bank helping build sports in this part of Africa,” said Bashir Abdi.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Bashir Abdi thanked Dahabshiil Group Companies for their significant role in supporting the Somali community and the long distance runner urged Dahabshiil group to stand by the youth and the sports community and at the same time called on other companies to emulate Dahabshiil.

East Africa Bank’s chief marketing officer said he was pleased and honored to have sponsored the famous Somali Belgian long distance runner Bashir Abdi, who secured the second place, as well as being the second-largest sponsor of the sprinter. .

Dahabshiil Group companies also hold and sponsors the annual Dahabshiil Marathon held in Hargeisa, Somaliland.
