Somaliland: Central government establishes IFMS system to local councils

The Ministry of Finance has transferred IFMS system to local governments, and that of Gebilay became first to be implemented.

Event held in Gebilay and attended different guests and staff, Gebilay Mayor Mohamed-Amin Omar Abdi said they welcome the move of the government-run IFMS program, adding that it is an honor to have it started at their region.

The mayor added they are ready for an accountability system, as it’s the interest of the people and the country of Somaliland

Speaking at the meeting, Gebiley Governor Abdikarim Adan said the system will allow the tax on a mother who sells tomatoes and development projects funds to be subjected to accountability, and seen to it that it was well spent.

Director General of Finance Mohamed Abdi Gurhan speaking at the event stated that the reason for launching the system in Gebiley first was in honor of topping good governance in the JPLG project implementation.

Mr. Gurhan called on Gebiley staff and management to continue their leadership role once the new system is implemented.

Director General of Home Affairs Said Ahmed Jibril stated the aim was to bring local governments into the framework of good governance in line with the Central government.
