Hargeisa- The government of Somaliland expected to receive from Djibouti a citizen who have been jailed for terrorism-related offenses, after mutual discussions held by the two countries agreed to the repatriation move.
Abdullahi Sheikh Abdirahman, has been for last 8 years imprisoned in Djibouti after having been arrested on terrorism-related charges with others in Hargeisa in 2004 hence was extradited and handed over to Djibouti., according to his mother Fatima Isse.
She claimed that her son was arrested with other suspects but was extradited alone.
She lamented back on June 15th, 2020, “I am an oppressed mother who has been discriminated against and my son is being held captive with Somaliland abetting in cahoots”, according to Dawan newspaper.
He will now be relocated back home in Somaliland to complete his remaining jail term.
The development happened after the Commander of the Somaliland Police Force Brigadier General Mohamed Aden Saqadhi (Jano-gale) held talks with Djibouti officials, particularly his counterpart Djiboutian Police Chief Colonel Abdillahi Abdi Farah in Djibouti.
The governments of Djibouti and Somaliland have just signed security agreements, particularly in the fight against terrorism and the transfer of criminals as they share a border.
This move emanates from the President of the Republic of Somaliland H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, who on June 18th 2020, stated that he discussed with Djiboutian officials about Abdillahi Sheikh Abdi’s case, a Somaliland citizen who has been imprisoned in Djibouti for some time, and who was complaining unfair justice to previous governments.
He said back then, “There is a Somaliland citizen who has been imprisoned in Djibouti for seven years on terrorism-related offences, and protested injustice by the previous governments. We have talked to the Djiboutian government and his case will be reviewed, God willing”.
