This is the first time a minister of notable portfolio from Malawi visits this country, especially at a time that Somaliland’s international stature is gaining strength, coming hot  on the heels of the President’s high profile Kenyan official tour.

The Head of the State gave the Malawian visitor a detailed re-cap of the nation’s aspiration and underscored the fact that this country has been able to achieve all that appertains to sovereignty and has so far in-advently made monumental progress without any foreign acknowledgement or tangible aid.

He underpinned the fact that neither Africa nor the International Community, has still not acknowledged the rights of this country, to the chagrin of Somalilanders.

On his part the Malawian Foreign Minister thanked the President, state and the people of Somaliland for the welcoming he has been accorded.

He brought a personnel message with greetings from President Lazarus Chekwera to the head of state.

While the President was flanked by his deputy, the ministers Finance, for Foreign and that of internal affairs, and deputy minister of foreign affairs; on the other part, Hon Mkaka was accompanied by Malawian Presidential advisor Mr. Martin Tom and director of Africa and Middle East affairs Mr William Bambi.

It is expected that the Malawian delegation will tour several state institutions and meet with various officials during his stay.

It is worth noting that the government of Somaliland was represented by a delegation of two officials who attended the inauguration of President Chakwera early in July this year.

Malawi which is a former British colony won their in July 6th 1964 shares the same commonwealth heritage with Somaliland which got her Independence similarly from the UK quite earlier on the 26th of June 1960.
