THT: The Republic of Somaliland is an independent state that fully controls its land, sea and air borders. Somaliland is located in a strategic spot in Africa, particularly in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.”
This is per a statement released by the Somaliland ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation in reaction to Somalia’s appointment of an Envoy to regional blocs.
Somalia on Wednesday named Yusuf Garaad Omar as Somalia’s Special Representative for the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden which the authorities in Hargeisa termed an affront to its, Somaliland, independence more so one geared towards detailing it’s standing internationally.
Somaliland has written to the international community, the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to ignore the appointment.
The statement read Quote: “The Republic of Somaliland is an independent state that fully controls its land, sea and air borders and located in the Horn of Africa where it controls a large Water mass in the strategic Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
The appointment of an envoy for the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden by the Mogadishu administration is a daydream and a claim, with the aim of misleading the international community’s view of the Republic of Somaliland’s independence. According to a map of Africa based on colonial borders, Somalia has no place in the Gulf of Aden.
The Government of the Republic of Somaliland informs the international community, the African Union, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) that the appointment of an envoy to the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden is a blatant interference and political war against the Republic of Somaliland. Therefore, the government and the people of Somaliland stand together to defend the sovereignty, the nation and all the borders of the country at all costs.
The Republic of Somaliland is a leading country for peace and democracy in the Horn of Africa, with councils directly elected by the people in free and fair one person and one vote. Therefore, Somaliland is making it clear to the international community that there are no parliamentarians representing the people and the country of the Republic of Somaliland in indirectly elected councils in Somalia, but they are individuals who do not represent anyone in their respective positions. These are positions whose purpose is political blindness.
The Government of the Republic of Somaliland has always stood for the maintenance of stability, peaceful coexistence, and development in the region. The Somaliland government is also closely monitoring the situation and developments in the region in terms of security, economy and politics. ”unquote
