Another round of fighting erupted in the early hours of Thursday morning 24.05.2018 in the outskirts of Tukaraq, Sool region, between the Puntland and Somaliland defense forces, it is not clear how the fighting started.
During the fighting the two sides used heavy weapons against each other during the fighting which lasted for several hours.
According to Abdirahman Guri-Barwaqo, Somaliland Minister of Information in a statement released from his office stated, “The armed forces of Federal Somalia launched a predawn offensive on Somaliland Republic armed forces based in the strategic town of Tukaraq from three directions. Somalia’s forces attacked through the front of Puntland Administration of Federal Somalia whilst Somaliland Republic was busy dealing with the aftermath of the recent tropical cyclone.
“Once again, Somaliland forces repelled the attacks and inflicted heavy losses on the invading enemy forces”, he said.
Puntland Minister of Defense openly declared war on Somaliland on Wednesday during a press conference held in Garowe.
Puntland has in the past three months launched 27 attacks against Somaliland forces based in Tukaraq town which is situated 30km south of the las Anod.
