Somalia: National Security Conference to be concluded today

Date:

The National Security Meeting, which has been underway in Mogadishu since February 6, is set to be concluded today.

Participants of the high-level security meeting discussed stabilization of the country before the 2020 general elections, strengthening of cooperation between federal and regional security agencies and reforming the security sectors.

Somalia has promised to make security sector reform a priority since the political agreements reached in the National Security Architecture in April 2017, and the Security Pact at the London Conference on Somalia in May 2017.

Regional state leaders on Wednesday briefed the gathering on the security situation in their respective regions. Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Mohamed Guled said the meeting will be concluded today and a joint communique would be issued.

It is the 6th meeting of its kind since the establishment of the national security council.
