A Somali national is wanted by police over allegations he defrauded some traders in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
Abdiwahab Dahir reportedly conned Abdirazack Ali out of Sh1million last year, claiming he (Ali) would be enrolled in the US’ Medicaid programme.
The complaint is registered at the Pangani police station under OB 13/19/12/17.
Some of the victims of Dahir’s actions said he claimed to be a North American Representative and Ambassador for The Jubaland Region of Somalia.
A police officer privy to the case told The Star they have information that the suspect had been executing the con game in Nairobi and Mogadishu.
His targets are businessmen and government officials, especially those of Kenyan Somali communities and those from Jubaland, the officer said on Wednesday.
“They are trying to evoke clan kinship and ask for contracts and tenders, and take off with as much loot as they can from those unsuspecting leaders.”
It is said the suspect owes various Minnesota Banks more than $2 million and that he is wanted by state and federal authorities which are trying to recoup monies paid to his companies.
The money was reportedly paid for services that were never provided.
Police records show the suspect also claims to work with the USAID in Somalia
