Alshabaab fighters on Tuesday killed six Kenyan soldiers in attacks in Mandera county, near Kenya’s border with Somalia
The militants ambushed convoy of Reservist and Administration Police travelling along Kutulo-Elwak road.
Mandera South deputy county commissioner Daniel Bundotich who confirmed the attack said the attackers hit police vehicle with RPG, killing two Administration Police officers and three reservist police.
“On Tuesday evening, Alshabaab militants ambushed police convoy, they killed five officers. Several other sustained injuries,” said Bundotich who spoke to the media after the attack.
Mohamed Abdullahi, a police reservist who survived from the attack said the militants blocked the road before the attack.
“We were on patrol between Elwak and Kutulo town, Alshabaa attacked our convoy, prompting clashes between our soldiers and Alshabaab, they attacked us from several directions. Unfortunately, some of my comrades died while others injured. We lost five Police Reservists and three Adminitration Police,” Abdullahi who was in Kutulo told Hiiraan Online

One Members of Mandera Assembly elected from Elwak confirmed the attack on the reinforcement convoy saying the attack injured several of GSU officers.
“The militants seemed to have planned to attack any reinforcement from both Elwak and Kutulo towns, they ambushed HIS officials dispatched from Elwak town. In the attack several officers were injured, no death was reported,” said the MCA who asked anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media.
Alshabaab claimed the attacks saying their fighters killed several Kenyan soldiers near Kenya’s border with Somalia.
The attack comes barely two days after of KDF soldiers killed five Alshabaab militants who said to have involved in Ijara Police Station attack.
Alshabaab fighters have launched several attacks inside Kenya since the Easy Africa country sent its troops to fight Alshabaab inside Somalia.
