Ambassador Concar commended ‘the absolutely vital part played in the process’ by the Somaliland National Electoral Commission (NEC).
The Ambassador called on all parties to respect the will of voters of Somaliland and to support peace and order.
“Somaliland has a really impressive record of achieving peaceful transitions of power and the UK looks forward to seeing that tradition continue as result of this election so that Somaliland and the people of Somaliland can set another great example of democracy in action for others in the region to follow,” Ambassador Concar concluded.
The presidential election on 13 November was the sixth of its kind held in Somaliland since 2003 three of whom decided presidents.
The Republic of Somaliland remains internationally unrecognized despite the gargantuan achievement it realized since 1991 on striking peace and stability in an otherwise volatile region and in showcasing perfect democracy that is rarely witnessed in the area.
