Somalia: OIC Launches Iftar Program in Somalia targeting over 1 million people

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of Somalia, Dr. Mayam Qasim, launched on Friday 26 May 2017, in the Somali capital Mogadishu, the Ramadan Iftar Program for the year of 2017 with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation office in Somalia.

The launching ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Dr Iman Abdullahi, Minister of Information and Guidance, government officials, international & National representatives from Islamic organizations, journalists and correspondents of local and international media.

At the outset of her speech, the Minister thanked and praised the efforts of the organization of Islamic cooperation, 35 Islamic charities and OIC member states for their continue assistance to the people of Somalia and to encourage countries and increase their efforts. The Minister pointed that this Iftar program is enormous assistance to encourage people to do fasting in the month of Ramadan, and hailed to reach target populations to over 1 million people in Somalia.

The acting Director of the OIC Office in Somalia Mohamed Idle Sabrie addressed the ceremony, commending and enumerating the efforts of the Islamic charities and the member states for coming this moment to collectively address the drought and the fast breaking in the month of Ramadan by reaching over 1 million people.

He also thanked the Somali government for the coordination and provision of all facilities for the OIC members, pointing out the OIC’s readiness to cooperate with all humanitarian partners in Somalia.

Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Dr Iman Abdullahi narrated the importance of supporting needy people, especially during Ramadan is the generosity that we must do. Thanking OIC and its coalition members to come and collectively respond this period.

The Minister of Information and guidance of Somalia, Mr. Abdulrahman Omar Osman uttered that the government of Somalia under the leadership of H.E The president and the Prime Minister has taken a serious stand in responding the Humanitarian crisis calling all partners to continue their efforts in reaching our the poorest people.
