President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo is scheduled to travel to London today ahead of the London Conference on Somalia on May 11th.
The London Conference is focused on security and economic development.
On the British side, the conference will be attended by top British officials and diplomats, Prime Minister Theresa May, Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, and the British Ambassador to Somalia David Concar are all expected to be in attendance.
President Farmajo will be joined by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Garad along with several other top government ministers and officials.
International partners and Somalia’s neighbours are also expected to take part in the conference. Top UN officials from various departments will be led by the UN SRSG Micheal Keating. Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, Egypt’s Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and representatives from Ethiopia and Djibouti will also attend the conference.
A similar conference was held in 2012 and 2013 aimed at stabilizing the shift from a transitional government to the Federal Government of Somalia.
