Somaliland’s representative to the UAE, Bashe Awil Haji Omar, arrived in the Swedish capital of Stockholm on Friday, after receiving an official invitation from Somaliland communities in Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Denmark.
Omar was welcomed by a large number of Swedish-Somalilanders upon arriving at Stockholm’s Arlanda airport.
Sweden’s Somaliland Recognition Committee led by Samir Dualeh and Hussein Abadir, Somaliland Representative to Sweden, Zakaria Wais and leaders of Sweden’s Kulmiye Party branch were also present at the welcoming ceremony.
An event honoring the representative for his diplomatic achievements will be held in Stockholm on Saturday.
Omar is expected to meet with Somalilander diaspora from Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark during his stay and discuss the diaspora’s crucial role in the development of the country.
Samir Dualeh, a senior member of Sweden’s local Somaliland recognition committee praised the representative for his diplomatic achievements in a statement sent to The National.
“DP World’s $442 million investment in Berbera Port will bring much-needed change for Somaliland and provide a wonderful opportunity for the country’s vast youth population seeking employment,” said Dualeh
“President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud Silanyo’s decision to appoint Bashe Awil Haji Omar as Somaliland’s representative to the UAE was one of the best decisions our President has made since he took office,” said Dualeh.
