According to His Excellency the Minister of Fisheries for the Republic of Somaliland, Ali Jama Bureed, a six-man fishing boat is feared drowned by gusty winds off the shore of El Deraad, to the east of Berbera, Tuesday.
“We fear for the lives of the missing as the boat itself is not found,” the Minister said.
Minister Bureed added that the Somaliland Coast Guard had been combing the area since the accident was reported but, thus far, neither the boat nor the 4 fishermen are found save or perished.
The minister stated that the area in which the boat was passing had no Internet or GSM connection, a blind spot where no one could call for help.
“As the boat was not fitted with a radio, and given the unavailability of telecommunication connection, it was hard to reach the beleaguered in time,” Minister Ali said.
