According to Somaliland’s National Planning Minister, two Danish Refugee Council workers have been deported for committing acts against Islam.
Speaking at a press conference at Ministry headquarters, Mohamed Ibrahim Adan told reporters that one of the workers prevented a staff member from praying while the other made an insulting remark about the Athan – the Islamic call to worship.
Adan said the workers were deported following an investigation into the incident. He also said the Government notified the DRC of the incident and that both workers have been suspended by the agency.
Under the Constitution of the Republic of Somaliland, Islam is the state religion of Somaliland. The promotion of any religion other than Islam is illegal, and the state promotes Islamic tenets and discourages behaviour contrary to Islamic morals.
