Somaliland: NEC refutes Extension of Election Timeline Claims – Spokesperson

The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has dismissed reports circulated by a section of the media alleging that the government is planning to extend the election timeline.

Mr. Said Ali Muse, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) spokesperson speaking to reporters on Saturday refuted the extension claims terming them as baseless and lacking any merit whatsoever.

“The National Electoral Commission has a working schedule and we have not been contacted by the involved stakeholders on the issue, furthermore presently there isn’t any reason for further extensions.

The spokesperson added, “The National Electoral Commission shall next week (Monday) begin the voter’s registration process in Sool region hence my plea to residents of those areas to register themselves for as eligible voters.

“The NEC responsibilities of the National Electoral Commission is to conduct civic education programmes, to educate our people on how to conduct themselves during the elections and how to vote, He added.

Mr. Said Ali Muse, “The voter’s registration is the foundation of our electoral process and its quality carries forth to successful elections.
