The first meeting of its kinds which the Turkish government hosted and mediated saw the attendance of scholars from Somaliland and Somalia government concludes after engaging a lengthy talks and discussions before the resumption of the dialogue officially kicks-off in Istanbul. They have issued a four points agreement after they held two-day preliminary talks.
Dr. Husein Abdilahi Bulhan from Somaliland and Hon. Yusuf Garad Omar from Somalia chaired the talks and issued a four points agreement although the agreement was not disclosed to the press.
1.Both sides have agreed in conclusion that a mutual understanding has been reached which calls for the continuation of the Somalia/Somaliland dialogue.
2. They have reached a common understanding that seminars and talks on the major disagreement and the conflict between Somaliland and Somalia should proceed.
3. They said that Peace Foundation, the Turkish-based organization on research and democracy should take in charge of holding debates on Somalia/Somaliland conflict.
4. They have come to an agreement that the delegates should come together for the second round of talks when it is about to begin.
Somaliland made a major breakthrough when it comes to making a progress on the bone of contention issue which was that other foreign government delegates should be allowed to attend the talks.
Somalia used to reject the notion but it seems that an agreement has been reached.
