Date:

A project to eradicate illiteracy in Somalia was discussed by UAE officials during a recent meeting in Nairobi.

A delegation from Al Maktoum Charity Foundation met with representatives of the Unesco regional office for Eastern Africa during a visit to the Kenyan capital.

Mohammed Obaid Ghannam, the secretary general of the foundation, said the charity, under the directives of its patron Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, is actively participating in plans to fight illiteracy in East Africa.

The programme aims to provide primary education and encourage continuous education among school dropouts and to develop a tailor-made curriculum for youths.
