Italy: Police Jailed 20 Somali human trafficking

A court in Sicily sentenced Monday to 20 Somalis who had received political asylum in Italy to collaborate with a huge criminal organization dedicated to smuggling of migrants.

Catania Prosecutors said the defendants were members of an international gang that demanded “big money” migrants from Kenya and Somalia to introduce in Italy and then help them continue their journey to destinations in Sweden and elsewhere in northern Europe .

With these sentences totaling 42 members of the gang, which was discovered operating in Italy.

Italy, which has some 200,000 migrants rescued at sea since early 2014, has been released to the suppression of human trafficking.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and European foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini vistaron a ship of the Italian Navy performing border control operations in the Mediterranean.

“The entire international community is aware that this is a global problem, not a single country,” Renzi told the Italian press.  sourceTexcoco Press
