The federal government of Somalia has said it will not tolerate abuse and violence against women in the country.
Speaking a head of International Women Day on 8th March, Minister for Women and human rights affairs Sahra Mohamed Ali has said violence and abuse against women in the country is unacceptable.
“Both our religion and culture have great respect for women, we there for need to speak in one voice against continuous violations of our women rights,” she said.
She said that the government is committed to improve the rights of women, children and community at large.
“We will never tolerate any form of abuse to our women and society,” she said.
Mrs. Sahra took an example of huge demonstrations in India by women to demand their rights following abuses such as rape and killings by gangs.
