Somaliland: Illegal immigrants nabbed as they attempt to leave from Somaliland territorial waters


Marine police detained a total of  72 illegal Ethiopian immigrants who were on a boat.

More than 10 illegal immigrants died during a two week trip in the sea.

Somaliland coast guards have nabbed the illegal Ethiopian immigrants in its territorial waters in Meydh.

Somaliland Marine police said they received a tip-off that a group of illegal foreigners would attempt to leave the country illegally through the area.

One of our patrol boats spotted a speedboat heading towards Somaliland waters on Friday.

The boat’s crew tried to escape from arrest but vigilant marine police have done their utmost to apprehend and are in police detention.

Marine police said that the boat was ferrying the illegal immigrants to Yemen and departed from the shores of Puntland.

Somaliland Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants launched an investigation and conducted thorough questioning and interrogation to the illegal immigrants nabbed during an operation.

Somaliland coast guards urged those with information on any suspicious activity to contact the marine police.
